The Now is Jay Phelps’ Seven release as a solo artist. Phelps is a household name on the international Jazz scene with worldwide streams exceeding 500k.
The Canadian born trumpeter displays a fresh approach and combines genres not typically paired together for his latest album, via the Apple Music subsidiary label Platoon.
Here he leads a stellar cast of the UK’s brightest young stars including David Mrakpor (Blue Lab Beats) Thomas Ford (Chris Dave) Nicola Guida (Secret Night Gang) Harry ‘Mackwood’ Ling (Levitation Orchestra) Ruta Sipola (The Cavemen, Wizkid) and more!
Released in June 2023, The Now is already having streaming successes exceeding 200k, with top listeners in Japan, USA, UK and China. The highest amount of streams and Shazams are for the singles ‘Through the Clouds’ and ‘The Malleables’ and both songs are accompanied by well crafted music videos.
Phelps’ DJ set is an energetic combination of Future beats, Tropical rhythms, Amapiano, Baile funk and Soulful House, but the USP is his trumpet. Jay blends his signature trumpet sound to the music, making his sets come to life.
He plays sets at iconic venues including Soul in the Horn, The Bricklane Jazz Festival, Village Underground, Hootananny, 91 Livingroom, Peligoni Club, Café 1001, Secret Garden Party, Ronnie Scott’s.
With three sold out shows at the Jazz Cafe already under their belt, the two sets presented by Phelps features the music from ’58 Miles and Kind of Blue. To bring this to life, Jay has picked a line-up of the UK’s best!
